Join the Brookvale community in a Chinese New Year flash mob dance!

The flash mob is on Monday, January 30th at 8am or at the sound of fire crackers (no worries, it is a song track not the real fire crackers). Meeting place is at the Brookvale school flagpole.

Notice will be sent out in advance on the Yahoo list if there is change of date due to weather.

January 30th is January 3rd in the lunar calendar. China and many Asian countries celebrate first 15 days of Jan in lunar calendar.

The flash mob dance for Chinese New Year welcomes non-Chinese dancers! Bring your kids along if you can convince them to participate. The dance is simple. Many kids in China know the dance by heart. The song itself is a household song. It’s a little like Chinese Zumba 🙂

Flash mob is an experiment of community participation. Come join the experiment and have fun together :-)) Feel free to forward the message to any Brookvale families who may be interested in joining.

Brookvale PTA would like to take a moment to mourn the passing away of our dear friend, Mr. James O’Neal, or Mister Jim, as he was fondly called by our students and staff.

An U.S Navy Veteran, Mister Jim worked at Brookvale for many years as a Custodian, because he loved to be close to the children and it was very important to him to give them the safest and cleanest environment possible. In fact many of of the trees that line our playground today were planted by Mister Jim in his days here at Brookvale.

Many of our parents and students may remember him as the doting grandfather who volunteered every Bronco Gallop and cheered the students on, along with his wife Lequita O’Neal or Grandma as we know her. They stood with us even this past October, though his health was failing and were there to cheer us on at the Bronco Gallop. Mister Jim was a fighter and he taught us all the importance of hard work and loving what you do and excelling in it.

We will miss him dearly!

Don’t forget to bring your pillows, blankets, or lounge chairs. Children are not to be dropped off. Parents must accompany their children at all times!
